Bakuage 17: Bun and Byun (ブンとビュン Bun to Byun) is the seventeenth episode of Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger. It features the debut of Byunbyum Mach and Byunbyum Mach Robo[1].

Synopsis[]

Sakito's partner "Byundy" or Byun Diesel wants to meet Boonboom. But Boonboom says, "I don't want to see you... No, I can't." What kind of relationship did Boonboom and Byundy have in the past...!?

Plot[]

At a bar owned by Taiya, the Rangers are having non-alcoholic drinks with Genba as the bartender making a juice cocktail for Mira. Ishiro tries to calm Jyo, who feels anxious, something that he confesses he feels often when in a bar. Taiya is waiting for Sakito to meet them while sipping a virgin Bloody Mary, only for the cleaner and Byundi to be disappointed that Bun Bun is a no show and both prepare to leave. Taiya stops them saying that Bun Bun apparently doesn’t want to see either of them but especially Byundi. Annoyed, Sakito draws his crossbow and aims at Taiya, only to have the other Rangers point their weapons at him in a standoff. Taiya asks Sakito why he wants to see Bun Bun so badly, but Byundi says that he is the one who wants to speak with Bun Bun.

Watching from surveillance video in the Garage, Agent Saibu asks Bun Bun if he is certain that he does not want to see Byundi. Bun Bun says that it is more that he can’t bring himself to face his rival again and nothing will change that. Agent Saibu swoons over how cute Bun Bun is even when he’s anxious while his back is facing away from her.

At a gym, Decotrade is trying to pump up his biceps on the weight machine and feels the burn while Ittasha is struggling a bit on an exercise bike. The two then take a brisk jog on the treadmills together, both determined to get in better shape to beat the Boonboomgers.

Their workout is interrupted by Yaiyai’s screams of agony, with the poor little car flying into Ittasha’s arms crying because Cannonborg operated on him without consent while he was sleeping. Decotrade asks Cannonborg if he actually went through on his threat to modify Yaiyai, which he confirms and it serves the purpose of speeding along their goal to make Earth their territory. He notes that the Hashiryan have successfully been gathering Ghassolin on other planets to further the power of their organization. Yaiyai has a single modification but Cannonborg will not say what it is. Cannonborg then picks up the legendary sword of Reflector and says he will be busy making more modifications so the Trio needs to get back to work gathering Ghassolin.

The Trio are not enthused about this, with Decotrade and Ittasha irritated at their captain for hurting Yaiyai. Ittasha then reluctantly turns the treadmill she was using into the Gym Grumer with her Ignition Key. Jyo’s body building friends are in the gym and are startled by the sight of the monster, simultaneously screaming in terror and flexing their abs and biceps in different poses.

Back at the bar, Taiyo wants to know who is the alien that Sakito is with. He introduces himself as Byun Diesel, but Sakito has taken to calling him “Byundi”. Sakito is curious to what Taiya is drinking, which Genba explains is tomato juice and asks if Sakito would like something to drink. He says he wants “something chaotic”, which Genba starts preparing while Taiya continues his conversation with Byundi who reveals that he and Bundorio were racing rivals in the BBG but worked in the same racing team.

Hearing this on the monitors upsets Bun Bun further, with Agent Saibu asking if that is true as he explained to her that Byun was always ahead of him as a rival. Bun Bun confirms that both are true, he wanted to become faster than Byun and beat him in a race, creating the Boonboom Controller in order to achieve that goal, but failed to get it to work. Agent Saibu deduced that this is not the reason that Bun Bun is avoiding Byun, but Bun Bun says that he just can’t face his rival, feeling ashamed for some reason. An alarm goes off and the ISA surveillance taps into the Gym’s security cameras with Gym Grumer seen terrorizing the two muscle bros who try to have a flex off with it to try to see who has got a better body.

Agent Saibu calls for the Boonboomgers to deploy just as Sakito gets his drink, a “chaotic cassis Orange”, a drink that has berries floating in an iced purple juice atop orange juice with a crazy straw to sip it. The others go without Taiya, who still has some things to discuss with Byundi and Sakito, to fight the Kuramaju. After taking a long sip of his drink, Sakito says that he was surprised to learn that there were other Boonboomgers, since he and Byundi are both Boonboomgers themselves. Byundi says that the name that the Rangers carry was originally the name of the very racing team that he and Bun Bun used to be part of in the BBG.

The Trio and Gym Grumer drive the people in the gym outside and manage to trick them into their hellish training as they all have super heavy dumbbell weights attached to their hands. None of the athletes except Jyo’s bodybuilder friends can lift them and begin to panic, but the agony of being trapped in a workout causes everyone to start screaming for help as Gym absorbs their Ghassolin. The Rangers arrive and Ishiro takes charge, with the team dodging Gym’s attacks and then performing a floating transformation into their suits.

The sight of the Boonboomgers calms the civilians down and the Ghassolin they are creating dries up, much to the annoyance of the Trio. Jyo and Mira guide the people to safety and then the team has an intense battle with Nejiretta swarming them while Gym bombards the area with explosive dumbbells. Gym then knocks the team off balance and hits them with weights, then pins the Rangers down with barbells, though Genba comically is still able to stand with multiple dumbbells on his body, though he knows the experience will leave him sore tomorrow. Ishiro is able to pump his biceps up and down with the weights but they are so heavy he is unable to move anything else.

Outside in the bar’s parking lot, Byun says that the team name was something that they could not agree on. He wanted the Byunbyungers while Bun Bun wanted to call the team the Boonboomgers. To decide what name would be best, they challenged each other to a race, with Bun Bun being the winner. Agent Saibu asks Bun Bun if this was true, which he says it is but he only won that particular race and not any other since then.

Byun says that after Bun Bun lost his racing license to participate in the BBG, he left him without saying a word and then heard rumors that Bun Bun died after not hearing from him for a long time. He just wanted to talk to his old partner to catch up with him and know that he was alright. Taiya understands now that Byundi missed his friend and was worried about him, feeling relieved as he thought Byundi had some sort of vendetta against Bun Bun. He gets in his car to go aid his team despite Sakito saying that they still have business with him, annoyed and even coldly stating that he should just let the Hashiryans take over Earth. Taiya reminds Sakito that he is from Earth too, but Sakito calls his former home a “dump” that he left and asks what is to be gained by protecting it. Taiya says that he and his team have no reason other than they want to help, which Sakito says that is the kind of thing he hates, Taiya shrugs off that response by saying everyone has that reaction and drives off.

Byundi tries to convince Sakito to help by saying that they can indulge in the chaos where Taiya is heading to, with Sakito mulling over it.

Back outside the gym, the Boonboomgers are in danger as they are tortured and pinned down by the Hashiryan, with Ittasha tickling Mira and Jyo being attacked by Yaiyai as he tries to get the barbell off of him. Taiya races in and quickly gets out of the car to transform and fight, shooting the enemy forces to drive them back long enough for his teammates to free themselves. Despite this the others are momentarily exhausted from their weightlifting, leaving Taiya to fend off Gym Grumer by himself until Sakito suddenly arrives. The rouge Violet Ranger has a proposal, asking the Boonboomgers to hire him to their and the Trio’s bewilderment as he transforms into Bun Violet.

Sakito offers a demonstration of his abilities as a “trial run”, offering his help for free just this once. Jyo and Mira object to this as he is clearly trying to take advantage of the team, but Genba says it can’t hurt to see what Sakito can do while Taiya also rejects Sakito saying that they can handle the enemy. Sakito decides to intervene anyway and quickly decimates the Neijiretta using his speed and afterimage illusions.

Gym Grumer tries to hit Sakito with a shockwave from his barbell, which the Formula 1 fighter dodges and then blasts oncoming weight projectiles with his blowgun’s Gatling function, followed by using it in sniper mode to blast a hole through Gym Grumer’s chest. Gym is then launched into the air by Sakito’s tires and blasted into oblivion by the Byun Byun Arrow Drive. Sakito boasts about how fast he is to the Boonboomgers, but YaiYai interrupts by going berserk again.

Cannonborg then reveals what the new modification to Yaiyai is, the Highway Beam, a device which catalyzes Ghassolin to revive monsters without the need to enter Highway Space by creating an energy field that gives off a similar effect to entering said space directly. After ejecting the beam and enlarging Gym, Yaiyai falls into Ittasha’s arms with her and Dekotorade worrying about him and even more angry about how Cannonborg treated him.

The Rangers launch the Boonboom Cars and form Boonboomger Robo, with Byundi and Sakito joining them as Byunbyum Mach.

Byundi races ahead of Bun Bun as Sakito initiates a boost, ramming Gym Grumer as they outpace their enemy’s projectiles. They are about to finish off Gym when Cannonborg orders his monster to use the modifications he gave him to stop them. Gym transforms into a giant treadmill, trapping Byunbyum Mach on its track and throwing garbage to cause its rear tire to blowout. Sakito sees Gym Grumer increase the speed of his treadmill with the control panel on his chest and decides to do a boost jump to ram it, shutting off Gym’s Infinity Treadmill form and reverting him to normal. Byundi is still injured and with a busted tire from being on the treadmill, with Bun Bun offering to help him as his pit crewman, rolling a new tire out and quickly putting it on him with the help of a ratchet attachment to his screwdriver. Byundi thanks Bun Bun for the help and boosts back onto the battlefield with Sakito changing him into Byun Byun Mach Robo and destroying Gym Grumer with the ByunByun Finish.

Bun Bun celebrates Byundi’s win with a checkered flag racing finish and the Trio sulk because they lost again, saying it is the same old results and they just expect it at this point. Byundi says he will make sure to repay Bun Bun for his help as he drives off.

Byundi and Sakito are about to leave Earth, but the latter asks Byundi if he is fine not talking to Bun Bun before leaving. He says that he got what he needed to know with how Bun Bun changed his tire. Sakito is relieved to hear that and pulls out a holofoil trading card with someone on it, staring at it. Byundi asks if he is going to settle his matters here, but Sakura says no and wants to head back into space. Their plans are interrupted by a call from Cannonborg, who wants to speak with them for some unknown reason.

Later in the evening at the garage, Bun Bun has made BoonBoom Curry for everyone, who praise him for his pit crew skills and his Ratchet Gadget, which makes him blush and he says he hopes to use those skills at the BBG as the team’s pit crewman during the race. Ishiro walks in, saying he has found information on Sakito Homura and what he was doing 10 years ago before he went missing.…
