Bakuage 12: Explosive Engine (爆上エンジン Bakuage Enjin) is the twelfth episode of Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger. The episode is a crossover with Engine Sentai Go-Onger, featuring the return of Sosuke Esumi, Engine Speedor, Engine Bus-on, and Engine BearRV.

Synopsis[]

Taiya finds what looks like a small car, similar to a Boonboom Car. Then, the mysterious car starts talking to him, “Deliver me to my partner"! Soon after, Go-On Red appears in front of Taiya and his friends, who are in big trouble...!? Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger and Go-On Red are going Mach Full Force!

Plot[]

At a warehouse facility, Yaiyai and Itasha are both badmouthing Cannonborg’s leadership, with the former not trusting him and the latter thinking that he is weird, stuck up and suspicious. Decotrade tries to get them to stow that kind of talk but slips into throwing his own shade at their new commander by calling him “Chief Four Eyes”. Cannonborg emerges and had overheard their insults, threatening to modify them as punishment, causing the Trio to panic and try to keep their distance from him. He states that as promised, he will take over their operations as of today, taking away Itasha’s job by finding an abandoned pair of Geta and using his Ignition Key to turn them into the Geta Grumer. Itasha is naturally upset that she no longer has any purpose given that Cannonborg took her job of creating monsters away.

Elsewhere, Taiya has completed another delivery and checks in with Bun Bun, saying he will be home soon as he walks towards his car. He stops when he hears something in the grass crying out in pain, finding a little red car and picking it up. At first Taiya thinks it is some kind of Boonboom Car, until the car suddenly starts speaking, which surprises Taiya. The car introduces itself as Speedor, an Engine from Machine World and says it is a pleasure to meet Taiya.

Taiya takes Speedor with him to the garage, where the Engine asks Mira, Genba, Ishiro, Bun Bun and Taiya if they would mind helping him find his partner, Sosuke. He explains that he exited a dimensional portal and came into the Human World but he suddenly got struck by a falling meteor and shrunk down to toy car size because the impact rattled his Soul and he can’t change back to his normal size. Speedor hopes that finding Sosuke will help him, Ishiro asks if the way he is now isn’t how he normally looks. Speedor says that is correct and a while ago he defended Earth with his fellow Engines and their human partners from the evil Gaiark and upheld the peace, with a flashback showing the Engines forming Engine-O G12 with the help of the Go-Ongers. Mira says that Jyo would absolutely love to hear that there are other superheroes out there, while Genba is honored to have a “veteran hero” in their midst.

Mira thinks that the relationship between Engines and the Go-Ongers sounds a lot like the one Taiya has with Bun Bun, with Bun Bun agreeing. Taiya promises that they will deliver Speedor to Sosuke, with everyone agreeing to help find him.

At Jyo’s police station, a man wearing a familiar racing jacket delivers a crying lost boy to Officer Akuse, telling him to look after him while he goes to find the boy’s mother “at Mach Speed”. Jyo thanks the man for his assistance but insists that finding the boy’s mother is something that the police can handle. The man is revealed to be Sosuke, who says that he refuses as he promised the boy he would make sure to find her. Jyo feels that is not really something a civilian should do, but Sosuke ignores him and tries to encourage the boy to “smile, smile” as he heads out, flipping his coin to decide what direction to go in, heading right when it lands.

Jyo thinks that there is no way that the man can find someone through searching random directions and tries to talk to the boy to get information. This proves more difficult than Jyo thought as the little boy is too scared to talk and constantly crying, only for Sosuke to suddenly return with the boy’s mother and the two are happily reunited. Sosuke pats the boy’s head, glad that he could help while Jyo looks at Sosuke dumbfounded.

In the bushes near a park fountain, Geta Grumer stalks his first victims in the form of a couple who are enjoying a fruit snack together at the fountain. Geta Grumer is outraged that the couple are wearing sneakers and boots and rushes over to them to transform their footwear into getas. The couple is upset that their stylish footwear were tuned into getas as they cry for their own boots and shoes back, which turns into Ghassolin for Geta Grumer to absorb, who demands that they scream more.

The team is alerted to the attack by Bun Bun, with Taiya apologizing to Speedor as they have to delay their search for an emergency, Speedor understands as Taiya carries him.

Back at the police station, the mother waves goodbye to Sosuke as she heads home with her son, but Jyo gets a call to head to where the Kuramaju is, Sosuke gets curious as to what has the policeman running off in such a hurry.

Geta Grumer has placed more people in getas and chases after them, threatening to beat anyone with his kendo stick if they move too slow, which scares the civilians into screaming more and generating more Ghassolin as they struggle to run in their heavy wooden sandals. His pursuit is interrupted by the arrival Taiya and company which gives ample time for the civilians to escape. Speedor goes somewhere safe to watch behind a park bench since he isn’t at full strength yet while Taiya, Mira, Ishiro and Genba transform. Speedor is surprised to see the people he was with were Rangers.

While the team does a good job of clearing out the Neijiretta and Jyo arrives to join the battle, Cannonborg is watching from a hidden camera and gloats that he installed a nasty surprise inside Geta Grumer to prevent the Boonboomgers from using their Bakuage Handling Drive finisher. Geta Grumer launches his signature technique: the 100t Geta, which traps the team’s feet in iron getas, which each pair as its name suggests weighing 100 tons and completely immobilizing the Boonboomgers. Ishiro tries shooting his off, but the bullets have no effect and nobody is able to move, as the higher ground level of the Geta keeps their boot wheels from touching the ground. Geta Grumer charges and thrashes each Ranger with his kendo stick.

Speedor gets fed up with how unfair the fight is and charges in to help the Boonboomgers, hitting Geta several times. The Trio see the little red Engine and wonder what it is, with Itasha thinking it reminds her of Yaiyai, who denies that there is any resemblance at all. Cannonborg sees Speedor and recognizes him, remembering that was the thing that he crashed into on his way down to Earth. Speedor charges one more time at Geta, only to be hit by the kendo stick with a baseball bat like swing and fall to the ground. Geta Grumer is about to finish all of them off with his Geta Drones, when he is hit in the face with a coin. Sosuke has arrived and is reunited with Speedor when Taiya tosses the Engine to him, Sosuke mistakenly calls his junior “Boonboom Red” and does not seem to hear Taiya try to correct him.

Sosuke wonders why Speedor is still small even though he has his Engine Cast on, but his partner says that can wait as they have to save the Boonboomgers. Sosuke agrees and tucks Speedor in his jacket to keep him safe as he transforms into Go-On Red, surprising the Boonboomgers who did not know that Sosuke was a Ranger. The Trio freak out as they did not anticipate that another superhero would show up and complain that nobody told them about this.

Sosuke summons his Road Saber and rushes in, despite Taiya trying to tell his senior that he should not rush towards the enemy and watch out for his attack. Sosuke says he only does things one way: moving forward at Mach Speed. This stubbornness gets Sosuke caught in a pair of 100 ton getas, with the Boonboomgers frustrated that Go-On Red didn’t listen, but Sosuke’s hot blooded spirit to keep going allows him to keep moving despite the weight. Geta is shocked his opponent is still moving but then tries to finish him with the Geta Drones, only for Speedor to come out of Sosuke’s suit and destroy them. The two then work together by Speedor boosting his thrust to maximum with Sosuke holding onto him, then surfing on the Road Saber to perform the Saber Straight: Speedor Rendezvous attack which knocks Geta Grumer off balance and frees everyone from their iron getas. The Boonboomgers and Go-On Red do a roll call together and Bun Bun gets hyped seeing six Rangers together. Sosuke is able to get Speedor’s Engine Soul out of its cast, fixing him. The Rangers then execute a combination finisher to defeat Geta Grumer: the Bakuage Go-On Handling Drive which infuses Speedor with the Boonboomger’s attack energy to ram Geta Grumer like a missile until he is destroyed.

Yaiyai goes into Highway Space after collecting the Ghassolin, with the Boonboomgers and Go-On Red chasing after them. Bun Bun is impressed with Speedor as they race alongside each other, who shows off his skills by running circles around Yaiyai and then going into flight mode to pick up the malicious monster car and hurl him off the track. After expelling the Ghassolin, Yaiyai falls but Itasha and Decotrade successfully catch him and praise him for doing a good job.

The Boonboomgers form Boonboomger Robo but get hit by the Virtual Geta Beam which immobilizes Bun Bun’s legs and Geta Grumer pulverizes him with his Kendo stick, which unfastens Boonboom Off-Road and Boonboom Wagon from Bun Bun’s arms leaving him defenseless. Mira wonders what happened, which Ishiro theorizes that Boonboomger Robo’s legs are caught in an intense gravitational well and unable to move. Just as all seems bleak for the heroes, Speedor returns from Machine World with his wife BearRV and Engine Bus-On with Sosuke combining them into Engine-O to aid Boonboomger Robo.

Engine-O uses its superior speed to knock Geta Grumer several yards away while Sosuke proposes to aid the mobility of his juniors by joining “three legged race style”. Boonboom Wagon and Off-Road tie the legs of the two Robos together and they work in sync to kick Geta Grumer senseless to undo the effects of the gravity well. The two Robos then do the Boonboomger Rolling Inferno tumbling technique to knock Geta Grumer down again, then finish it off with the multi sword slash attack: the Go-On Boonboom Grand Prix.

After the battle, Speedor reveals what brought him to the Human World in the first place, he wanted to invite Sosuke to attend his son’s wedding, with BearRV saying that his fellow Go-Ongers are already in Machine World waiting for him at the reception. Sosuke accepts the invite and says his goodbyes to his “Kohaiger”, entrusting the safety of the Human World to them.

Taiya wishes Sosuke well, and Sosuke says the same for the former, calling him “Boonboom Red” again only to be corrected by Taiya, but Sosuke reveals that he was just teasing. He puts his Go-On Red helmet on and boards Speedor, driving off to Machine World. Bun Bun shouts goodbye as they leave, saying how cool they were, as Taiya thinks about his partnership with Bun Bun and smiles.
