Bakuage 11: What The Boy Wants (少年がほしいもの Shōnen ga Hoshī mono) is the eleventh episode of Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger. It features the first appearances of Raita Naito and Modification Captain Cannonborg.
Synopsis[]
Taiya is assigned to deliver "Bun Red" to a certain person. The client of the mission is the man who inspired Taiya to start the delivery service. At the same time, a new type of Kurumaju is on the rampage in town, and a mysterious remodeling captain makes his first appearance... who is it!?
Plot[]
Taiya has arrived at Lightning Tech at the request of its CEO Raita Naito, parking his car in the deck garage and getting a warm welcome and hug from him upon entering his office. Raita hasn’t seen Taiya in two years and says he should visit him more often, though Taiya is a bit annoyed at being called “boy” by Raita because he is an adult now. Raita says it doesn’t matter how old he gets, he will always be the same kid he met back then. Taiya smiles and Raita laughs jovially as they catch up.
Back at the garage, Ishiro explains to Jyo that Raita is the reason Taiya became a delivery man and is the head of Lightning Tech, a multinational corporation that is influential across the world. Mira is amazed Taiya knows him, since she sees Mr. Naito often on the news. Ishiro says that it was a while ago, the exclusive software Raita’s company developed was often the target of intelligence agencies around the world. In order to maintain its security, Taiya was sent out on a delivery to prevent the data from being stolen and Raita chose him because he could trust him with such a task. Having secured the safety of humanity’s future and seeing the joy he brought Mr. Naito, Taiya decided right then and there that he wanted to be a delivery man. Jyo asks Ishiro what kind of relationship does Taiya have with Mr. Naito, to which Ishiro compares their bond akin to a student and his teacher, acting as a mentor for Taiya.
An alarm from the ISA tracking satellites goes off, with Agent Saibu patching through via a video webcam call, only to briefly be distracted by Bun Bun saying hello to her. She regains her focus and informs the Rangers that the ISA has detected an unknown aerial object heading towards Earth and advises caution. After ending the call, she squees about how cute Bun Bun is and then enjoys her hot morning coffee, only to accidentally burn her tongue.
Back at Lightning Tech, Raita gives Taiya his delivery, a plush doll of Bun Red, which he says is a job that will help the world and the people in it. One of Raita’s colleagues has a son who is very sick and needs a difficult surgical procedure to remedy it. When Raita asked him what would cheer up the boy, the child said that he wanted a Boonboomger. Taiya says that is a tough thing to ask for and Raita agrees, so in order to fulfill that request, Raita made a one of a kind Bun Red plush doll. Taiya asks why he is doing the delivery, to which Raita says that the little boy loves cars and that fancy red sports car that Taiya drives would make the child really happy and brighten his day.
Taiya understands and says that he can’t say no to such a request, agreeing to take the delivery. Raita shakes Taiya’s hand and instructs him to talk to his secretary about the time, place and Taiya’s payment for his services. Taiya turns down the money, saying that the child’s smile will be enough of a compensation for his work. Raita won’t hear of it and insists he should be paid for his hard work, Taiya says the money should be given to charity then instead of him to help other kids in need such as the poor and starving. Raita agrees to those terms and says it is great that Taiya hasn’t changed much as the delivery man heads off on his mission.
Elsewhere, the Sanseater Trio are feeling a bit lethargic and decide to take the day off. Decotrade says it isn’t a crime to take a break every now and then, however a voice says they will do nothing of the sort and that kind of slacker attitude will get them modified. The two are startled by a new Hashiryan appearing behind them, who introduces himself as an alien from the planet Needham who was sent by the boss to whip the trio into shape. He is the genius modification captain of the Hashiryan Custom Corps: Cannonborg.
Yaiyai blurts out that this guy seems lamer than Madrex, with Itasha quickly trying to cover his mouth to shut him up to avoid getting in trouble. Cannonborg threatens to modify the Trio’s language if they insult him again, but Yaiyai blurts out “Lame!” as his companions try to tell him to keep quiet. Cannonborg quickly assess that the trio have been lackluster in their efforts, not only has Madrex been killed in action, but they have constantly failed to deliver even a single drop of Ghassolin off the Earth and to the Hashiryans. The Trio have brought shame to the ranks of the syndicate, which they apologize for, but Cannonborg arrogantly says that as the shrewdest member of the organization he has been chosen to solve this problem. Yaiyai continues to throw shade at Cannonborg, finding it odd that the captain talks so vainly about himself and that makes him sketchy as a leader, only for Itasha to force his mouth closed and Decotrade to tell him to knock it off as they are in enough trouble as it is.
Cannonborg has decided to evaluate their methods by giving them a chance under his command, ordering them to get to work immediately. Itasha finds a parabolic satellite dish outside on a roof and throws her Ignition Key into it, creating the Antenna Grumer. The trio are impressed with their work as Cannonborg closely examines the Kurumaju and the Trio command their monster to deploy out in the field...though Cannonborg chuckles evilly as they all leave.
Moments later, panicking civilians are being chased and rounded up by Nejiretta so Antenna Grumer can install antennae on the heads of their captives. Antenna Grumer then transmits a broadcast frequency that places the people unwillingly under his control, forcing them to mimic his dance moves and then under the strain of not being able to control their bodies, causes them to scream in terror and he siphons their Ghassolin into his body. The Trio laugh at the misery of the humans and their goofy dancing, only for the four of the Boonboomgers to arrive on the scene. Antenna uses his “antenna humans” to slow down the team and prevent them from attacking as they cannot hit innocent people. They quickly figure out that the people are being controlled and Ishiro takes command since Taiya isn’t here, suggesting that they try to end the broadcast signal of Antenna Grumer somehow to free the people. After a stylish transformation while fighting off enemy combatants and avoiding hitting the mind controlled civilians, the Trio applaud the Rangers for a sec until they snap out of it and order Antenna Grumer to attack.
Taiya is just about to leave to make his delivery when Bun Bun informs him about the current situation and the location of the Hashiryan attack. Taiya calls Raita and says that an emergency has come up but he will keep his promise to deliver the package on time, which Raita understands if it involves helping someone in trouble, encouraging Taiya to get going.
Back at the fight, things go pretty well for the Ranger quartet as they clear out the Nejiretta and Ishiro stealthily snipes off Antenna Grumer’s antenna tower off his head. Antenna passes out and the civilians are freed as their antenna disappear from their heads. Jyo and Genba make sure everyone evacuates the area, but Antenna Grumer wakes up and acts oddly, then suddenly grows an antenna on his arm. The Rangers are surprised that their opponent can power up, with the Trio surprised as well but figuring out that Cannonborg did some modifications to Antenna to make him stronger. A flashback reveals that when Cannonborg examined Antenna, he injected dormant modifications into his body by stabbing a wire tendril into Antenna’s back.
Now completely overpowering the Boonboomgers, Antenna uses new attacks to render their weapons useless and then places Mira, Ishiro and Joy under his control. He names them his “Antenna Sentai BariBariger” and forces them to try to destroy Genba. Ishiro pleads Genba to try and destroy the other antenna to free them, but Genba believes that is easier said than done with all three of them attacking him. Genba is shot down and is in danger but Taiya arrives in the nick of time and changes into Bun Red, only to be shot in the back by Ishiro. Jyo explains the situation despite trying to kill Taiya against his will.
The two Rangers decide to utilize the weaknesses of their teammates’s fighting styles to their advantage with Genba disarming Ishiro, who is a ranged fighter with his gun and lacking in hand to hand combat and Taiya using Mira’s quirk of holding her Boonboom Handle the wrong way against her. The latter proves moot as Jyo loses his Boonboom Axe and Mira proves to be even more dangerous as a dual weapon wielder. The two power up to fend off the oncoming attacks, only to notice that their Changers interfere with Antenna Grumer’s signal. Taiya and Genba then continuously press the triggers to boost their power and jam the signal, blocking it entirely and freeing their teammates by shorting out Antenna Grumer’s ability to control them. The five Boonboomgers then finish off Antenna with a five sword strike Bakuage Handling Drive.
Yaiyai quickly picks up the Ghassolin and heads into Highway Space with the Rangers chasing after him. Yaiyai tries to lose them by throwing antennas at them but they dodge it. Yaiyai gets too cocky and turns around to tease his pursuers, only to not see the turn lane and fall off the road by speeding in reverse. Yaiyai ejects the Ghassolin and lands near Cannonborg’s feet as Antenna revives, with the modification captain taking an interest in what is transpiring.
The Rangers combine into Boonboomger Robo and Bun Bun suggests that they try a new combination, forming Boonboomger Robo Shovel and Patrol Car 2 Custom.
Antenna Grumer tries to use its Toxic Signal to control Bun Bun, but the wave is blocked by a barrage of missiles. The team quickly shifts to Boonboomger Robo Knight and quickly end the fight and destroy Antenna Grumer with a new Boonboom Finish sword technique, Bakuage Sword: Rounding Lap Finish.
The Trio grovel in apology to Cannonborg for their failure, who is very disappointed in them and relieves them of their authority to take charge as their commander.
At the hospital, the little boy is in his bed with his mother when he hears a car pulling up. Excited, he gets up to look out the window and sees Bun Red in person ready to deliver a toy to him. The boy excitedly tells his mom to look out the window to see Bun Red. Both of them wave at the superhero and he does his roll call and waves back at them. Taiya whispers thanks to the little boy for his smile and he made sure to give him something a little extra special for today by appearing as the real Bun Red.
At Lightning Tech, Mr. Naito gets a phone call from the boy’s mother thanking him for the wonderful gift. She mentions that the real Bun Red appeared in a red sports car, Mr. Naito thanks her for calling and hangs up. He looks at an older photo of him and Taiya, saying he had no idea and Taiya never ceases to amaze him, figuring out that Bun Red is Taiya.

Notes[]
- As part of Super Hero Time, this episode aired alongside Kamen Rider Gotchard episode 35, Gorgeous Time! Legendary Never Ends.
- Mid-Credits PSA: The heroes encourages the viewer to not rush out into the road to avoid accidents, especially at street corners and turn lanes where a car might not be able to see them right away.
- The “one of a kind” Bun Red plush toy prop in the episode is a real world piece of merchandise made by Bandai, part of a series of Super Sentai chibi plushies made annually that have been produced since Zyuohger.
- Raita Naito’s name, if switched around, sounds phonetically similar to Knight Rider, the 1982 cult classic sci-fi action TV series about a driver and his A.I. powered supercar. This continues the show’s gimmick of certain character’s names having some connection to vehicles.
