This article is about a/an actress in the Power Rangers franchise. |
Amy Jo Johnson (born October 6, 1970) is an American and Canadian[1] actress, singer, musician, and director who portrayed Kimberly Ann Hart/Pink Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. She also portrayed the feature film incarnation of the same character in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.
Biography[]
At the age of 18, Johnson moved to New York to pursue acting, having attended the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She later moved to Los Angeles to begin her career.
Six months after moving to LA, she was cast in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Though the show was a success and brought recognition to Johnson's name, the show was non-union and Johnson was not a member of SAG-AFTRA at the time, thus resulting in financial insecurity due to low pay and frequent near exposure to on-set danger; she was almost put on fire for a stunt and was almost electrocuted during filming for Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. Due to this, she chose to leave the show and pass her role down to Catherine Sutherland.
In later interviews, Johnson admitted that her role as the Pink Ranger was something that she would "never live down". The role felt overwhelming and gave her nightmares, but was still nevertheless grateful for her time on the show and the fans it created.
She recently made a cameo appearance alongside Jason David Frank in Power Rangers (2017).
Johnson declined her offer to return for the Netflix special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always and has not publicly revealed the reason why.[2]
Other Work[]
Johnson is also well known for playing Julie Emrick on The WB's college drama Felicity, where she started her music career and released her first single called "Puddle of Grace". She is also known for playing the rookie cop Stacy Reynolds on the Lifetime police drama The Division, and the champion jockey Tina Sharp on the TV drama Wildfire.
Between 2008 and 2013, Johnson became one of the stars of the Canadian hit series Flashpoint. For her starring role as SRU negotiator Jules Callaghan, she was nominated for the 2009 Gemini Awards for Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role.

- In a later No Pink Spandex interview, conducted in 2013, Amy Jo states that she would have loved to come back to reprise her role as Kimberly for Super Megaforce.[4]
